There are currently six
distinct forms of the MBTI® questionnaire.
Each one is different in its use or its scoring.
Form M (93 items). The current standard form of the MBTI®
instrument. Scored for four-letter type and the preference clarity
indexes. Computer or template scoring available. Computer scoring
may be done through mail-in prepaid answer sheets or through online
administration and scoring. When the instrument is computer scored,
the results are returned to the professional. Use it when you
are able to give the MBTI instrument ahead of the feedback session.
Form M self-scorable (93 items). The current standard
self-scorable form. Scored for four-letter type. The preference
clarity indexes may also be calculated. It is hand-scored by the
individual taking the Indicator, or by the professional. Use it
when there is not time to give participants the Indicator
before the feedback session, or when everyone in the group feedback
session may not be available to take the MBTI instrument before
the feedback session.
Form G (126 items). The previous standard form of the
MBTI instrument. Scored for four-letter type and preference scores.
Computer or template scoring available. Use Form G only if you
have a large number of Form G answer sheets in inventory or you
need Form G results to compare with previous Form G results or
with ongoing research that uses Form G.
Form G self-scorable (94 items). The previous standard
self-scorable form. Scored for four-letter type. It is hand-scored
by the individual taking the MBTI instrument or by the professional.
Use it only if you have large numbers of Form G answer sheets
in inventory.
Step II™ Form Q (144 items). Used to generate a four-letter
type and scores on twenty facet scales, with five facets in each
of the four primary MBTI dichotomies. The facet results highlight
individual differences within type. Used when in-depth individual
feedback is needed (e.g., coaching, counseling, executive development,
relationship counseling).
Step III™ (222 items). Designed for anyone who wants to increase
awareness about the specific and unique ways they use their type in making life choices.
In-depth sessions with a trained Step III professional help the client gain insight
necessary for becoming more effective in the natural use of their type.
The MBTI® Step III™ Interpretive Report is written directly to the client using "non-type" language.
The counselor helps the client process the statements generated to address their current
level of self-confidence, approach to difficulties, sources of enjoyment, and more.
The Step III instrument and
Interpretive Report are available for purchase and use only by professionals who
have successfully completed the MBTI® Step III™ Certification Program.
